ICYMI, Vans and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) released a limited edition capsule collection on September 30th. The VANS x MoMA capsule puts an artistic spin on streetwear classics by incorporating designs from some of the world’s greatest modern artists.

Included in the collection are inspirations from the likes of Claude Monet, Salvador Dali, and Edvard Munch. While the Vans x MoMA limited editions bring art to the streets through a variety of sneakers and apparel, our favorite from the collection are the Vans originals inspired by Vasily Kandinksy’s ‘Orange’.

Vasily Kandinsky’s ‘Orange’, 1923

According to the official MoMA site, Kandinsky started ‘Orange’ in 1922 while he worked at the Bauhaus, the innovative and influential modernist art and architecture school in Germany. His work, consisting of precise lines and dense groups of simple geometric shapes, is now wearable art and at the top of our collab wishlist.

Unlike the Prada x Adidas Superstar, the Vans x MoMA Classic sneakers maintain their traditional materials but leverage the playfulness of shape and avant-garde of Vasily Kandinsky’s modern art. While not not necessarily positioned as a luxury shoe, the Vans x MoMA Kandinsky Slip-Ons carry their own refinement that sets them apart from their skateboard sneaker counterparts.

Our favorite Vasily Kandsinky-inspired Vans will set you back a modest $80 - not bad for a sneaker collaboration that will stay as timeless as Kandinsky's original masterpiece. There are other sneakers available as part of the recent release, but these playful shapes and colors strike the best balance between the two worlds.

This first round of the capsule is currently available for purchase at Vans stores and the official MoMA site. For those of your anticipating what else the Vans x MoMA collaboration has in store, you can expect the second round of limited pieces to release in November.
